Knit “Tea With The Queen” Dress

“Tea With The Queen” Dress

When a friend of mine saw me once wearing this dress, she told me I could have tea with the Queen in it and I wouldn’t embarrass myself. And, really, I do believe that this dress, so modest in its beauty, sophisticated and discretely decorated with the lacy pattern on top and bottom, can be worn in the most elegant occasions you can think of.

This piece isn’t my original design but by Garn Studio website whose instructions I followed throughout most of the pattern. However, I did change the bottom lacy pattern so you can compare the two versions and choose the one which is more appealing to you. That’s why I decided to share this post with you.

To make this dress you will need to have upper-intermediate knitting skills, to be familiar with lace knitting, as well as knitting in rounds.

instructions

For instructions in English, click the button below – the pattern name is Desert Delight.

The dress is knitted in the rounds, from top down. However, for my variation of the dress I followed the original instructions until the beginning of the bottom pattern. I finished the dress and the bottom edge differently, and in further text you can read the pattern for my variation of the hem. Also, instead of holding 2 strands of yarn, as the instructions propose, I knitted the dress with 1 strand of yarn “Helena“, so I adjusted the number of stitches according to my choice of yarn and the size of needles.

If you would like to make the dress like mine, follow the original instructions for your size until about 5-6 cm from the bottom edge. Then follow the directions below.

At about 5-6 cm from the bottom edge, work like this: (K 1 round, P 1 round)3x. In the last round of these repeats, adjust the number of stitches, if necessary, to the multiples of 7. Then continue like this:

Rnd 1 – (K2tog, YO, K5, YO)repeat to the end of rnd. Place marker.

Rnd 2 – K all sts and yarn overs.

Rnd 3 – (K2, YO, SSK, K1, K2tog, YO, K1)repeat to the end of rnd.

Rnd 4 – Like Rnd 2.

Rnd 5 – (K3, YO, Dec2, YO, K2)repeat to the end of rnd.

Rnd 6 – Like Rnd 2.

Rnd 7 – K all sts.

Next, work like this (P 1 rnd, K 1 rnd)3x. Break yarn, weave in the end.

Additionally, look at the diagram.
