Crocheting over a wire is the most efficient way to obtain a solid, and at the same time flexible hat brim. This technique is very simple and you will master it in no time.
As for the choice of a wire, in some countries there are specialized shops where you can buy wire whose ends can close to form a circle. I haven’t been able to find such a product in Serbia, so I used tin wire. Insulated electrical wire can also be a good choice since its multi-fiber ends can make a nice, neat, invisible closure.
